The United States Federal Aviation Administration is investigating an incident earlier this month at Pago Pago International airport.
A Polynesian Airlines plane was forced to abort a landing in the American Samoan capital on May the 2nd, as a West Pacific helicopter was also on the same runway.
FAA online records indicate the registration of the helicopter is unclear.
The Pago Pago Airport supervisor Maiava Leota was on duty at the time of the incident and filed a report with the Port Administration airport manager.
An FAA spokesman Ian Gregor, who is based in Los Angeles, confirmed that the FAA received a report about the incident.
He says FAA is gathering information but didn't reveal how long the probe would take.
Because the FAA does not have an air traffic control tower in Pago Pago, Mr Gregor says the FAA would not have data on aborted landings in American Samoa.
