Tributes to a "generous man" have flooded in to the family of Karl Evans, the general manager of Captain Cook Cruises Fiji, after he died suddenly of a heart attack on Monday.

Mr Evans was previously the country manager in Samoa for the Australia-Pacific Technical College.

Widely-known in the hospitality and tourism industry in the Pacific, Mr Evans also worked in Tonga, Fiji and New Zealand and taught for 20 years at Sydney's Ryde College of TAFE.

The Joint Managing Director of Captain Cook Cruises, Jackie Haworth-Charlton, says it was a shock to lose such an energetic leader.

"Karl was an amazing fellow. He had so much passion for Fiji, for its people and customs, and certainly for our business. He was a great fit for us and it is such a shock, his passing. It's a real tragedy for us and he will be a very, very difficult man to replace."
