A Papua New Guinea doctor from the United Nations Population Fund says PNG's health services are continuing to deteriorate.

Australia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Julie Bishop recently raised concerns that PNG will not achieve the Millennium Develop Goal calling for improvements in maternal health and child mortality.

Dr Gilbert Hiawalyer says sixty percent of mothers still give birth in the villages and these statistics are unchanged in 30 years.

He blames lack of maintenance of health facilities and asks where the aid dollars go.

Buildings are not maintained and there's no rooms, no water and no light for mothers to deliver in the health centres. Everything there now is in dire need for repair. Basically government did not put any resources at all and the whole services for maternal and childhood have deteriorated. Many resources are put in through the Australian government but we look at again and see where the money goes in. It is the responsibility of the government to ensure that certain services are there.
