French Polynesia's former transport minister, Bruno Marty, has been given a suspended six-month jail sentence for drink driving.
Last year, he crashed his car while he was almost five times over the legal alcohol limit.
The incident prompted his resignation as he at the time was the territory's main person in charge of road safety.
Shortly afterwards, he also lost his driver's licence after it became public that he had three drink drive convictions and was supposed to have surrendered the licence months earlier.
The president, Gaston Flosse, downplayed the accident, describing as normal given that Bruno Marty had worked up to 18 hours a day and didn't have a driver.
