Sport: Athletics Fiji to discuss Ravana Jr at meeting

10:52 am on 12 June 2014

Athletics Fiji will meet on Thursday to discuss how they can help on behalf of Roy Ravana Junior's family.

The 20 year-old, who was in the US on an athletics scholarship, was killed in a shooting incident in Sacramento on Tuesday, while trying to help another person who was injured.

Two youths have since been arrested in relation to the shooting.

Fiji Prime Minister, Rear Admiral Frank Bainimarama, has expressed his shock and sadness at the shooting of track star Roy Ravana Junior in the United States.

Rear Admiral Bainimarama says he is appalled that Ravana Junior - an innocent bystander - should lose his life in such a way, when he had so much promise.

He says Ravana Junior was not only a great athlete but a wonderful role model for every young Fijian.
