The regional director for IFC Sergio Pimenta says access to energy is extremely low in the region.

"Across the Pacific region only about 20 percent of households have electricity access so this is a very low number and without electricity there is no economic activity, the lifestyle of people is affected so it is very important to have access to electricity."

Sergio Pimenta says approximately 50 percent of the power supply in the Pacific is diesel-generated

and moving to renewable energy is becoming more affordable and reliable.
