Call for locals to write Vanuatu Development Plan

5:11 pm on 19 June 2014

Vanuatu's Director for Strategic Policy, Planning and Aid Coordination Benjamin Shing has launched an attack on the Asian Development Bank.

The country is considering a new National Sustainable Development Plan and Mr Shing says the previous plan had failed because of ADB involvement.

He says the Comprehensive Reform Programme was drawn up by ADB foreign personnel who placed the agency's financial interests first.

Mr Shing says such a document should be drawn up by the people of Vanuatu who know what their country wants.

His statement came during a public forum called to seek public input on a new national development plan.

Mr. Shing says the country needs a development plan drawn up by ni-Vanuatu experts as they know what has failed in the past and how to help the country become an educated, healthy and wealthy nation.
