French Polynesia test veterans attack Flosse

11:07 am on 24 June 2014

French Polynesia's nuclear test veterans organisation says the President's proposal to move a memorial site for test veterans is an attempt to erase that era from French Polynesia's history.

Gaston Flosse has directed that the present memorial on a beach in Tahiti be removed and a new one set up elsewhere at a later date.

But the head of Mururoa e Tatou, Roland Oldham, who led a protest against the move on Sunday (Monday NZT), says it is only being moved because Gaston Flosse is trying to suck up to France.

"To me they're following the plan of the French government which is to say that the French nuclear test is clean and that everything is beautiful. The people have really stood up against that."

Roland Oldham of Mururoa e Tatou says Gaston Flosse is a megalomaniac trying to sell French Polynesia to the devil.
