Fiji continues to build Russia links

7:24 am on 30 June 2014

Russia's Foreign Ministry says the Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov is to meet his Fijian counterpart Ratu Inoke Kubuabola in Moscow to discuss prospects for deepening bilateral cooperation.

The Voice of Russia reports that they will also "compare notes" on international problems.

Ratu Inoke's imminent visit follows on from a visit to Russia last year by his Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama.

That visit resulted in various bi-lateral agreements including on mutual cancellation of visa requirements, technical military cooperation, and interaction in the fields of healthcare and higher education.

The Russian Ministry says Russian-Fijian relations have "acquired incremental dynamics" in recent years.
