PNG's Somare escapes injury

The governor of East Sepik province, Sir Michael Somare, has escaped uninjured after the roof of a stand he was sitting in collapsed on Saturday.

PNG Loop reports the roof of the traditionally build main grandstand collapsed at the Melenesian Festival of Arts and Culture in Wewak.

Sir Michael and several otehr dignitaries were sitting on the stage at the time.

The only casualty was a man who had his arm cut by the roofing timbers and was rushed to the hospital.
