Cooks poll results could go either way - Democrats

7:22 am on 12 July 2014

The Cook Islands Democratic Party says control of the government is still up for grabs despite preliminary results showing it has the lead.

An early count shows the Democratic Party currently has eleven seats while the Cook Islands Party has won ten.

The One Cook Islands Movement has two seats and one seat is tied.

But the Democratic Party's president, Sean Willis, says the final count could make a difference.

"It could go either way but you know we still have confidence that we'll get the numbers to form the government but we'll wait for the final countdown before we make any statements."

Sean Willis says he expects the election results to be close.

The final count will be out later next week.
