A handicraft producer's workshop is being run in Vanuatu to ensure wood carvers, artefact makers and weavers are able to produce enough locally made products for visitors to buy.

The Vanuatu Tourism Ambassador Programme's workshop is being jointly funded by Australian and New Zealand aid.

The workshop heard that the biggest challenge facing local handicraft producers is that 90 percent of products sold to visitors come from China.

A special committee is working to find a way to boost the production of local products.

Producers are also being called on to ensure all 'Made in Vanuatu' products can meet the legal requirements of border control authorities of the visitors' home governments.
