A final count from the electoral office shows the Cook Islands Party has won the majority with 13 seats while the Democratic Party has eight, the One Cook Islands Movement has two and one seat is tied.

The Democratic Party says an inaccurate vote count and bribery with items such as motorbikes and washing machines cost it the election win and it will challenge the results.

But the caretaker Prime Minister Heny Puna, says the Democratic party is being a poor loser.

"I think the Democratic Party is being very unfair in going public with their criticism. I think it's more the hurt that they're feeling from losing out. Why they're coming up with all sorts of complaints at this moment is just beyond me, it just shows, for me, immaturity."

Henry Puna says he is not going to worry about petitions contesting CIP seats until they go through court.
