Applications challenging the constitutionality of parliament's extension of the grace period for motions of no-confidence are set to be heard the Supreme Court next month.
The Peter O'Neill-led government last year passed an amendment which increased the grace period for such motions 18 month to 30 following an election.
The Post Courier reports that the combined applications by the Opposition Leader Belden Namah and the former Chief Ombudsman Ila Geno are fixed for hearing on August the 27th.
Mr Namah's application also challenges the validity of amendments to increase the period of notice for a motion of no confidence from 7 days to 21, and decrease minimum sitting days of parliament from 63 to 40.
The chief justice has directed that the applications will be heard by a full Supreme Court bench comprising five judges.
