Samoa police have hired temporary officers to assist during next month's Small Islands Developing States Conference.

More than 280 men and women have been sworn in by a district court judge, Vaepule Vaemoa Vaai.

They will serve as auxiliary members of the force to help the 700 officers on duty for the SIDS conference.

Some of the extra officers are former members of the police force.
