The Cook Islands Party says petitions challenging the election results are an act of desperation from the Democratic Party.
The Cook Islands Party won a majority with 13 seats in the elections on July the 9th but the Democratic Party has filed eight petitions challenging the results.
The finance minister, Mark Brown, says the petitions have drawn out the process unnecessarily.
"The petitions that have been lodged by the Democratic Party was an act of desperation to try and find someway to stall the inevitable confirmation of the government that was elected on the day."
Mark Brown says the Cook Islands party has a strong case for its petition challenging the Murienua seat on Rarotonga that was won by the Democratic Party.
All finalised petitions and fees must be lodged on August 8th.
