The American Samoa Senate has confirmed a woman will head the government-owned Development Bank.

Ruth Matagi-Fa'atili was appointed to the post early this year but was rejected by the Senate.

However, she was reappointed last week and the Senate confirmed her appointment in a vote of 10 to 3 in favour.

While no questions were asked of the nominee during a confirmation hearing, some senators recommended that the bank look at ways to provide finances to assist both businesses and individuals.

Ruth Matagi-Fa'atili holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Finance and a Masters of Arts in Education.

She fills the post of Bank President, which has been vacant since Lolo Matalasi Moliga stepped down in early 2012 to run as Governor of the territory.
