Fiji have won the Pacific's first medal at the Youth Olympics in China, after the men's sevens team defeated Kenya 12-0 in the bronze medal match.

The result reverses their defeat to the same opponent in pool play and is the just the second medal won by Fiji at Olympic level, following Iliesa Delana's High Jump gold at the 2012 Paralympics.

France put defeat to Argentina in the pool phase behind them to win the men's gold medal match 45-22, while Australia outclassed Canada 38-10 in the women's final.

Elsewhere in Nanjing there was success for Fijian swimmer Meli Malani who won his 50m butterfly heat.

However the 17 year-old's time of 26.02 seconds was not fast enough to earn a spot in the semi finals.

Guam won their second match in the 3x3 women's basketball competition, beating Indonesia 14-11.

The Papua New Guinea women's footballers were beaten 4-0 in their latest match against Slovakia, while Fiji's hockey girls were thrashed 26-1 against Japan.

Meanwhile there were mixed results for Pacific golfers in the second round.

In the boy's competition, Guam's Devin Hua completed a solid two over par 74 to be even par after two rounds.

Rayman Kiri from the Cook Islands was 19 over par in his round to be 39 over par for the tournament.

In the girl's competition, Guam's Nalathai Vongjalorn went round six over the card to be 15 over par after 36 holes, while Memory Akama blew out in a round of 22 over par to be dead last on 38 over par.
