ADB praises Solomons SOE action

The lead author of an Asian Development Bank report says that Solomon Islands was an outstanding performer of nine countries surveyed in the Asia-Pacific.

Among the nine countries are Fiji, Samoa, Papua New Guinea, the Marshall Islands and Tonga.

The study says state-owned enterprises, or SOEs, continue to strain their economies

But its author, Lore Darcy, says other countries could learn a lot from the way Solomon Islands has restructured and improved their SOE operations in the last three years.

Its turn-around from being one of the poorest performing portfolios to one of the best performing is really remarkable and there's lessons that we can all learn from what they've done. The politicians have shown a sustained will to see this happen and it's delivered results.
