A tourism conference in French Polynesia has been told the territory hopes for a surge in visitors next year.

French Polynesia's tourism industry has been struggling for many years with estimates for this year of just 180 thousand visitors.

But the Minister for Economic Recovery and Tourism, Jean-Christophe Bouissou, has told the conference they want to grow this to 200,000 tourists in 2015, a goal he says is feasible.

Mr Bouissou says French Polynesia has many strengths as a tourist destination, including its immunity to the many global conflicts happening presently.
