Local club Lupe Ole Soaga have shrugged off the effects of a virus to begin the Oceania Champions League Preliminary football competition in winning fashion.

The Samoan champions beat Tonga's Lotoha'apai United 1-0 in Apia on Tuesday night to take a big step towards qualifying for the O-League main draw.

In the day's earlier match, American Samoa club champions FC Samoan Korean Baptist Church came from behind to secure a 1-1 draw against Puaikura FC from Cook Islands.

The teams resume competition tomorrow on Thursday with SKBC up against Lotoha'apai United and Puaikura to face Lupe Ole Soaga.
