A company from the Philippines plans to set up a multi-million dollar food processing facility in American Samoa.

According to a letter from the Governor Lolo Matalasi Moliga to the Senate President Gaoteote Palaie, the unnamed company is to invest 100 million US dollars in the operation.

The governor says the company has requested a due diligence visit to the Philippines to give the government confidence that it's a reputable company with years of operating experience.

Lolo has asked Gaoteote to be part of the delegation to the Philippines.

He says the economic benefit with respect to the creation of jobs and other residual benefits compels leaders to be proactive in ensuring that this proposal is implemented.

During budget hearings, the director of Commerce, Keniseli Lafaele, indicated that one of the new businesses that would be setting up at the Industrial Park is a food processing business.
