Jones appointed HC to Mauritius

9:49 pm on 21 October 2014

Former New Zealand MP Shane Jones will serve as New Zealand's High Commissioner to Mauritius and the Seychelles in addition to Nauru.

In May, Mr Jones was appointed to the newly established role of Ambassador for Pacific Economic Development by Foreign Minister Murray McCully.

Mr McCully says Mr Jones has presented his credentials to Nauru and he will be officially accredited to Mauritius and the Seychelles in the coming months.

He says the appointments will complement his role as Ambassador for Pacific Economic Development and ensure he is able to hear directly from the leaders of small island states.

The Minister says an important part of the role will be helping foster greater cooperation between the Pacific region and other regional groupings of island states.

Shane Jones will continue to be based in New Zealand.
