Pacific Tourism Ministers look at industry future

Tourism Ministers from 15 Pacific Island countries aim to develop a 5 year plan for the industry at a meeting this week in Nuku'alofa in Tonga.

The Pacific Tourism Ministers Council is the supreme governing body of the South Pacific Tourism Organisation which represents 18 Pacific countries on the international stage.

The SPTO's chief executive, Ilisoni Vuidreketi, says they want a plan to guide the promotion and development of tourism in the Pacific.

He says there are also issues affecting some member countries that need to be addressed.

"Issues such as, air access, product development, sustainable tourism, energy efficiency issues and all those sustainable development issues that relate to tourism."
