A 54 year old Fiji man has been jailed for two years for impersonating an elections official while seeking signatures to register a proposed political party, the Activist People's Party.

The offences happened in the Western Division in July.

Paula Maraivalu was sentenced by the Resident Magistrate at Lautoka, Lakmini Gigihagama.

The Magistrate said in sentencing Maraivalu that he had shamefully used the integrity of the officers of the Election Office to obtain an undue advantage and the crime he committed was inexcusable and intolerable.
