Memorial service to be held for Pike River victim

11:39 am on 29 August 2012

A public memorial service for one of the 29 men killed in the Pike River mine is to be held in Christchurch.

Ben Rockhouse was 21 when he died in a series of explosions in the West Coast in November 2010.

His father, Neville Rockhouse, says the family decided to go ahead with the service after hearing from the mine's owner, Solid Energy, that body recovery is unlikely.

Mr Rockhouse says the service will be held at Avonhead Primary School 11.30am on Saturday.

Only one other miner is still to have a memorial service.
