The Pike River mine disaster is expected to lead to the biggest workplace claim in the history of the Accident Compensation Corporation.

ACC Minister Nick Smith says the families of all the 29 miners are eligible for financial support from ACC.

He says the corporation estimates the cost involved will range from $10 - $13 million.

He says income compensation will be dependant on the number of children the miners have, which includes those who are not yet born.
