Tauranga has held its own remembrance and memorial service for the 29 victims of the Pike River Coal mine disaster.
The non-denominational service was hosted at the city's Holy Trinity Church at 2pm on Thursday to coincide the national memorial service in Greymouth.
About 200 people attended the service in a show of solidarity, grief and condolence for the people of the West Coast.
Members of the congregation cried as the names, ages and towns of all 29 workers killed after an explosion on 19 November were read out.
The Western Bay of Plenty police area commander and the mayor of Tauranga spoke at the service, alongside the ministers of the Combined Churches of Tauranga - united in and by common respect.
Remembrance books signed in Tauranga will be forwarded to Greymouth.
