PM satisfied with process of Mapp appointment

Prime Minister John Key says he is satisfied proper process was followed in the appointment of a former National Party cabinet minister to the Law Commission.

Official papers show the Justice Minister chose Wayne Mapp over six other candidates put forward by the commission.

Mr Key says the Government always considers all the nominations it gets, and Dr Mapp fits all the criteria.

He says Dr Mapp has a PhD in international law, has worked in the creation of the law as a cabinet minister and had a distinguished career as a lawyer.
