Labour MPs seek answers from Meridian

Labour Party MPs have asked Meridian Energy to reappear in front of Parliament's commerce select committee after their questions on its potential partial sale went unanswered.

The State-owned enterprise is one of four energy companies the Government is preparing to partially privatise.

Meridian chief executive Mark Binns and two other managers appeared in front of the committee on Thursday morning for its financial review.

Labour MP Clayton Cosgrove asked Mr Binns why Meridian chairperson Chris Moller was not there or other members of the board to answer questions on the sale.

Mark Binns told the committee that Mr Moller was overseas and it was not a deliberate attempt by Meridian's board to avoid questions on the sale.
