Green MP Holly Walker says her member's bill, which was introduced to Parliament on Thursday, will make the political system more transparent.
The Lobbying Disclosure Bill would set up a code of conduct and a register of lobbyists.
Ms Walker says the public has a right to know who is engaged in lobbying and trying to influence public policy in New Zealand.
She says Australia, Canada and the United States already have registers of lobbyists.
