Labour Party leader David Shearer has met with Australian counterpart and Prime Minister Julia Gillard.
It is the first time Mr Shearer - who is in Sydney for the 8th Australia-New Zealand Leadership Forum - has met Ms Gillard as Labour's leader.
Mr Shearer says he and Ms Gillard discussed the reviews the Labour parties in New Zealand, Australia and the United Kingdom are doing.
He says the big challenges all the Labour parties are facing centre on party membership and connecting to people in the community.
Mr Shearer says he and Ms Gillard also talked about what he says is the very good relationship between Australia and New Zealand, and ways to enhance it.
