The Green Party appears to have the numbers needed for a bill on lobbyists put forward by one if its MPs to be sent to a select committee.
The Lobbying Disclosure Bill sets up a register of lobbyists that could be accessed by the public, as well as a code of conduct for lobbyists.
The National Party caucus has not considered the bill yet, but Prime Minister John Key has indicated his MPs will support its first reading.
He says he is not opposed to the bill going to a select committee.
Mr Key says most other countries have a disclosure regime for lobbyists.
