US Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano is visiting New Zealand this week.
Ms Napolitano will meet Prime Minister John Key and other senior ministers during the visit which begins on Tuesday.
Justice Minister Judith Collins says the visit by a senior member of the Obama administration is another significant step forward in the warm relationship between New Zealand and the United States.
Ms Napolitano will depart on Thursday for Australia.
