New Zealand First leader Winston Peters has appeared to rule out doing a deal with the Labour Party at the next election, unless it changes its superannuation policy.
Labour says it would start gradually raising the age of entitlement for superannuation to 67 by 2033.
Mr Peters was asked at his party's annual conference whether he could enter into an agreement with Labour in 2014 based on its superannuation policy.
He replied that he could not, nor would he compromise his party for another that has lost the plot on the superannuation age debate.
Labour leader David Shearer says his party will wait to see what happens at the next election.
Meanwhile, the party aims to at least double its representation in Parliament at the next election and says it is working on policies that will attract new voters and give it the balance of power in 2014.
New Zealand First returned to Parliament with eight MPs in the general election in November.
Party president Kevin Gardiner says New Zealand First is signing up new members every week.
He says the party is also breaking away from the stereotype that it only has older supporters because it has a new youth wing and a candidates' development college.
