10:02 pm on 24 July 2012

Legislation to restructure the Families Commission has passed its first reading in Parliament.

The bill would create a single Families Commissioner role, and also require independent monitoring and research of key issues and programmes across the social sector.

It passed by 97 votes to 23.

It will now be considered by the Social Services Committee.
