Former Labour minister to head Fire Service review

1:44 pm on 14 August 2012

Former Labour government cabinet minister Paul Swain will head a four-person panel tasked with reviewing the Fire Service.

The Government announced the review last week, saying firefighters spend most of their time attending accidents and other emergencies, rather than just fires.

Mr Swain will be joined on the panel by the former chief executive of St John, James Wood; the chair of the United Fire Brigades board, Peter Drummond; and David Adamson from the Southland District Council.

The panel will report back to the Government in December.
