The Government's new 'super ministry' has appointed its first chief executive.
David Smol, the Ministry for Business, Innovation and Employment's acting head has been confirmed for the permanent role.
Mr Smol previously led the Economic Development Ministry which merged in July this year with the Labour Department, the Science and Innovation Ministry and the Building and Housing Department.
State Services Commissioner Iain Rennie says Mr Smol has the skills and experience to step up to successfully lead the changeover.
Mr Smol will oversee a $4 billion budget and lead about 3500 staff. His contract runs until June 2017.
