Monday-ise MP presents argument to committee

Updated at 10:12 pm on 13 September 2012

The Labour Party MP who wants workers to get Mondays off when ANZAC or Waitangi Day falls on a weekend has presented his arguments to a select committee.

David Clark is already assured of the numbers to get his bill passed into law, with the support of the Green, New Zealand First, Maori, Mana and United Future parties.

On Thursday, National Party MPs on the Transport and Industrial Relations committee questioned him on whether having the Monday off would affect the commemoration of ANZAC and Waitangi days.

Dr Clark said most states in Australia now allow for a Monday off for Anzac Day and it is being commemorated more there.

Having a long weekend makes it more likely that people will go to weekend events, he said.
