Family court bill passes first reading

A bill that would modernise the family justice system and make it more accessible to those who need it most, passed its first reading in Parliament. on Tuesday.

The Family Court Proceedings Reform Bill would encourage simple family issues to be resolved outside court, leading judges to focus on the most serious cases, such as abuse or family violence.

It passed by 68 votes to 52 in its first reading.
