Fresh charges have been filed in a private prosecution against ACT party leader John Banks in the Wellington District Court.

Last year, retired Wellington accountant Graeme McCready laid a prosecution against Mr Banks regarding paperwork he completed relating to his 2010 bid for the Auckland mayoralty.

The latest charges, filed earlier this month, accuse Mr Banks of making a false statement in a prospectus and investment statement published by Huljich Wealth Management.

Mr McCready now has to make written submissions asking a judge to allow the charges to proceed in the legal system.

The new application is likely to be considered at Mr Banks' next court appearance next month.
