Govt set to announce steps on plain packaging

Prime Minister John Key says the Government should be in a position in the next few days to announce the steps it intends taking towards plain packaging for cigarettes and other tobacco products.

Australia moved to plain packaging in December last year.

In April 2012, the New Zealand's Government agreed to take the same approach, subject to public consultation which ended in October.

Associate Health Minister Tariana Turia says plain packaging would be one more step towards New Zealand becoming smoke-free by 2025.
