PM corrects TVNZ claim in Parliament

Updated at 10:09 pm on 26 February 2013

The Prime Minister has corrected a claim he made to Parliament last week that SkyCity Entertainment had reached a deal to buy land from Television New Zealand in Auckland.

John Key made the claim last Wednesday as he answered questions about the Deputy Auditor-General's report on the process which ended with SkyCity the preferred bidder to build an international convention centre.

On Tuesday afternoon Mr Key told Parliament he was retracting the claims as TVNZ said it had received no approaches from SkyCity.

Mr Key says he was led to believe that SkyCity had consulted TVNZ on the deal after seeing architecture plans of the convention centre incorporating TVNZ land.
