Prime Minister John Key says he will ask Brazil's president to support New Zealand's bid for a seat on the United Nations Security Council.
Mr Key arrived in Sao Paulo on Sunday for the final leg of his 10-day visit to Latin America and will meet President Dilma Rousseff while in Brazil.
The leaders of other countries visited on the trip - Mexico, Colombia and Chile - have confirmed they will support New Zealand's bid.
Mr Key says Brazil has not indicated whether it will too but it generally does not publicly indicate its preferences as it wants to become a permanent member of the Security Council.
The vote for the Security Council seat will be held next year.
