Ex-Solid Energy boss invited to appear before MPs

The former chief executive of Solid Energy has been invited to appear before a Parliamentary committee on Thursday to explain the company's financial demise.

Last week Don Elder, who is still on full pay, did not attend a financial review of the state-owned coal company before the commerce committe last week, which prompted an outcry from opposition members.

Executives who did attend were unable to explain the company's $389 million debt because they were not with the company when key decisions were made.

The committee's chair, Jonathan Young, says he has invited Dr Elder to a meeting this Thursday.

Mr Young says no one opposes the idea and Dr Elder should be given an opportunity to explain what went wrong at Solid Energy.
