Solid Energy: Speaker asked to consider contempt

8:47 am on 21 March 2013

Labour MP, Clayton Cosgrove, has asked the Speaker of the House to consider two possible matters of contempt, relating to Solid Energy's select committee appearance a few weeks ago.

Mr Cosgrove says the first relates to comments from the acting chief executive Garry Diack about the availability of the former chief executive, Don Elder to appear before Parliament's select committee on Commerce.

The second relates to what Mr Cosgrove describes as the paucity of answers given to MPs on the committee, after executives repeatedly said they didn't have the relevant information.

Mr Cosgrove says one of the executives went on to talk in detail in the media, showing he was in a position to answer many similar questions that had gone unanswered at the select committee.
