NCW says Jackie Blue has earned new role

The National Council of Women says the National Party backbencher Jackie Blue has earned her appointment as the Equal Employment Opportunities Commissioner.

The list MP is quitting Parliament after eight years to take up the job with the Human Rights Commission.

Opposition parties are accusing the Government of more cronyism, following the contentious hiring of Dame Susan Devoy as Race Relations Commissioner in March.

But National Council of Women chief executive Elizabeth Bang said Dr Blue's lobbying for full funding of the breast cancer treatment Herceptin proved she fought for what is right.

She said Dr Blue continued to show her support for women's issues during her time in Parliament.
