Career diplomat Paul Foster-Bell will return from overseas to replace National Party list MP Jackie Blue when she retires next month.
Dr Blue is leaving Parliament to become the new Equal Employment Opportunities Commissioner.
Mr Foster-Bell is currently the deputy head of mission at the New Zealand Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
He is expected to take up his Parliamentary duties on 28 May.
