McCully to visit India and Sri Lanka

10:29 am on 3 June 2013

New Zealand Foreign Affairs Minister Murray McCully will leave on Monday on a trip to India and Sri Lanka.

In India, he will meet the ministers of external affairs, sports and commerce to discuss ways to further strengthen relationships between the two countries.

Mr McCully said the trip also provides the chance to take stock of the commercial relationship and to review progress on talks aimed at a Free Trade Agreement with India.

In Sri Lanka, Mr McCully expects to discuss the country's hosting of the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in November, as well as prospects for New Zealand's dairy trade.

He also intends to discuss human rights issues and progress towards reconciliation following the end of the country's civil war.
