Taskforce backed to drive wool recovery

AgResearch is confident that a newly-formed Wool Industry Taskforce can provide the impetus needed to drive a recovery of strong wool demand and prices.

The eight-member taskforce, appointed by the Minister of Agriculture, has the job of getting the divided industry working together to halt the decline of strong or cross-bred wool in particular.

AgResearch owns New Zealand's wool research body. Chief executive Andrew West says technical developments are only part of the solution to strong wool's recovery.

He says consumers need to be reconnected with the emotional aspects of using natural fibres as well.
